Forex: a pair of currencies
In forex you look at currency pairs. In EUR/USD, EUR is the first currency and USD is the second. A price of 1.1000 means 1 EUR is worth 1.10 USD. If EUR/USD rises, EUR is getting more expensive against USD. Forex generally runs for about 24 hours a day during the working week; weekends, holidays and breaks at your provider differ.
EUR/USD moved from 1.1000 to 1.1010: a difference of 0.0010, which is 10 pips by the usual convention. In most pairs 1 pip = 0.0001; in JPY pairs it is usually 0.01.
RememberA pip is a unit of price, not your Profit. Your Profit also depends on quantity and the contract.
